Amphibious manage second runners up

Our team of intrepid quizers took part in the semifinals of the Dorset Masonic Quiz tonight at Kinson Lodge, who acted as hosts for the event. Fighting for the last two places in the final for the Barnes Trophy of Masonic Knowledge were Ashley Lodge, Kinson Lodge and the Lodge of Meridian along with Amphibious.

Five rounds of what proved some very challenging questions were put to all four teams, twenty five in all. more...

Bournemouth Above and Beyond Trust

As mentioned in an article in the Bournemouth Daily Echo a few days ago, our charity for the year is Bournemouth Above and Beyond. A worthy cause who's aim is to 'assist serving and former members of the armed forces of the crown to resettle and rehabilitate into civilian life'.

As Amphibious is primarily made up of military personnel it was felt an apt charity to support. more...

Todnoy - our continued support

Our support for the Todnoy projects, started by the late Tony Birch has always been in the forefront when it comes to charity. Tony started his support for this village over ten years ago and it was agreed when he became ill that we would continue his wish.

Just before Tony passed to the Grand Lodge Above he managed to 'aquire' two bottles of vintage port which were produced to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Royal Marines. more...

Our top team step up

The Zetland Court Annual Fair took place last Saturday at the home and in true Amphibious style our top team stepped up to the mark. We ran the skittles alley, which was on loan from the RMA and originally donated to them by Mike Illand.

As always, a large amount of money was raised for the home and residents at Zetland Court, all going towards those extras that they surely deserve. Last year the fair raised over £14k for the Association of Friends who host the event every year. more...

Forest Holme project makes progress

Last Saturday a group of volunteers from Amphibious paid a visit to Forest Holme Hospice to lend a helping hand in freshening up their garden furniture with a well deserved lick of paint. This was part of our ongoing support of the home and in memory of our Bruv Tony Birch who sadly passed away there recently. more...

The challenge is made!

Well we've taken that big step and thrown down the gauntlet (we suppose it should be a white glove really) to all other Lodges in Dorset, particularly Kinson Lodge 5331.

We're going to enter the Great Dorset Masonic Raft Race next year and intend on winning that pesky trophy! There was a bit of a mix up this year with age restrictions for competitors, but that's all sorted out now and we're hard at work mustering up our crack team of intrepid rowers. more...

August

Do you know in a few days time it'll be August, where does the time go! That means there's only a few weeks before our Installation meeting at the beginning of September. Here are a few facts about August from our friends at Wikipedia, just in case you didn't know.

Facebook is certainly growing fast!

We're working hard to develop our Facebook page, publishing new articles every other day. These cover a vast array of subjects from updates on our events to pieces of masonic interest and history.

We're also publishing pieces on our own history and artefacts. So far we've covered our VSL, the rough and smooth ashlars, our nine o clock bell and today there's a piece about the tyler's sword. more...

Time's running out fast!

The clock is ticking, it'll soon be time for our Installation Meeting on the 12th September and our Assistant Secretary reports that places for the festive board are filling fast with just a few places left.

If you want to attend you'll need to book in by this coming Friday to avoid any disappointment, all places are on a first come - first served basis. more...

Todnoy is in our thoughts

As we've reported before, Amphibious have continued to support the village of Todnoy in Thailand for over ten years now, a project driven by the late WBro Tony Birch and supported by many, many others. It all started with a request by the local monks to assist the refurbishment of the Buddhist temple in the village. more...

Amphibious just keeps giving

Earlier today (Sunday) our hard working Charity Steward, Stew McKell and his wife Irene paid a visit to Amedeo Angiolini, the principle of the Bournemouth Above and Beyond Trust. Facebook is growing fast

We're pleased to report that our Facebook page is growing week on week. We are publishing posts at least every other day with news and stories about Freemasonry in general or with a masonic theme, not just about Amphibious Lodge and Chapter.

If you've not had a look yet then you can log on to your own Facebook account and search for @amphibiouslodge9050 or www.facebook. more...

Another donation to a very worthy cause

It was a great pleasure for our Charity Steward, Stew McKell, to visit the Livability home at Holton Lee, Poole recently. He was there to hand over another cheque to Steve Masterman the home representative for £1,700.00 on behalf of the Brethren of Amphibious, in support of the exceptional work the home does.

Livability was one of the chosen charities for Alan Ewart during his year as Master, along with Bournemouth Above and Beyond. more...

Amphibious declares its support

At our installation meeting back in September our WM, WBro George, declared that in addition to Forest Holme and the Victoria Cross Trust he wanted to support a local group or charity that worked closely with those suffering from dementia.

After much searching George has decided that during his year we will support the Greenwood Club, part of the Dorset Forest School. more...
