Amity members all adrift (for charity!)

Congratulations to the team from the Lodge of Amity who took part in the Dorset Masonic Raft Race in Poole Park on Sunday 1st July.

In what can only be assumed to be a tribute to the great Poole pirate Harry Paye, they proudly flew the skull and crossbones on their craft which, unlike some, survived the rigours of being rowed (twice) across the lake in Poole Park.

They came second in their heat in the first round, finishing the day in overall 3rd place after facing some tough competition on a hot and sultry afternoon.

The Amity team comprised Captain Martin Barker, 60, First Mate Roy Bursey, 62, Bosun Mick Colborne, 70, and cabin boy Derek Rolls, 61. Their total age was 253 which just happens to be the same age as The good ship the Lodge of Amity!

A good day out was enjoyed by all spectators and those who took part.

Twelve Lodges entered home-built rafts for the race, which raises money each year for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance service. Last year the event raised £900, but the final total for this year is yet to be announced.

Dorset Freemasons were pleased to donate £40,000 to the Air Ambulance during our Tercentenary year, yet this is just one of many charitable causes Freemasons
are proud to support.
